    Best all-around Thermostat
Very versatile thermostat for home. I didn’t need to pay extra for touch screen. The plus is the backlit display. Easy installation, very clear instructions and easy to program. Took me an hour to remove old, identify wiring and install and program new. Does not come with two AA batteries you will need.

    What’s all the fuss about?
First off after reading the less positive reviews I cannot understand what all the fuss is about. Especially when it comes to the mounting and programming. Three screws and yes you may need to drill new holes and patch unused ones, you might even need to paint 😱. Needless to say mounting was no problem and while the wiring was a bit difficult (arthritis) it’s not the fault of the unit. The real issue was whomever installed the existing HVAC unit and thermostat could have left a little slack in the wiring, not Honeywells fault. Programming was also no big deal, just have the install book so you can read (yes read) what it all means. Once you’ve don’t one or two setting you’ll likely fly through the rest. I also read one review that complained about having to pop the unit off it’s mount to replace batteries. Exactly how do you think this should be done? Don’t want batteries make sure you have a “C” wire and pick a different T-stat! In my case my existing wiring was only four wires so if I wanted something more advanced I would need to update/change the wiring. A simple enough job but I’m disabled and cannot get up into the attic space and couldn’t get any local technician to give me an actual estimate. Said the system needed to be tested first which they would do with a service. At best I was able to figure it would cost no less than $200 and my quest for a updated thermostat that required no “C” wire began. Which is what ultimately brought me here today. In the end my one gripe (other as well from reading reviews) is that the ambient temperature displayed is off a bit compared to my old unit. When installed the old unit reads 68 degrees and the Honeywell 70 degrees. Check 24 hours later and the difference was the same. Could be the old unit is off or the Honeywell, I did not check beyond the comparison of the two. But that’s not really the gripe. It’s that Honeywell does not provide and offset adjustment. This said I simply programmed the unit to account for the 2 degree difference and the house is as comfortable as when the old unit was installed.FWIW the old unit worked fine, I replaced it for the following reasons:* old units display was hard to read because it was small.* old unit was not backlit (this would have helped).* was repainting and the old unit was beige and looked terrible with fresh white paint (was light yellow before).

HAS FAN CIRCULATION MODE! Worked as it should.
Honeywell thermostats come in a dizzying variety of features and you MUST do your research to avoid ordering something you don’t want or need. I wanted a “fan circulation ” mode for our new 2-story condo with a regular gas furnace and one stage AC. It came with a basic Honeywell thermostat that only turns heat or AC on or off with no “fan circulation” cycle. We learned years ago in our 2-story home that a “fan circulation” cycle (just the fan turns on for a few minutes between heat or AC cycles) really evens out temperatures in a 2-story house. When the fan runs it breaks up the thermal layers that naturally develop (warm air rises, cool air sinks). When your thermostat is upstairs (or downstairs) it responds to only the air around it (too hot or too cold depending on the season) and it kicks on your AC or heater until the air around that thermostat is at the right temperature, regardless of what is going on with temperatures in the other level. With an upstairs thermostat, in summer, it means the downstairs is probably cool but the upstairs is hot so the AC kicks on and now you are pumping more cold air into the downstairs and upstairs until the upstairs fills up with cold air, sometimes making the downstairs an icebox. By using just the fan to circulate the air between heating or cooling cycles the air is mixed up so the thermal layers don’t form and make your thermostat kick on needlessly. You can buy fancier (more expensive) Honeywell thermostats with room sensors that will seek to get an average temperature for all rooms. But I just wanted the simpler less expensive thermostat with a “fan circulation” setting. And this one has it. (It was hard to learn which models had this fan circulation mode and which did not from online listings so I CHECKED THE SPECIFIC MODEL numbers Installation Manual at HONEYWELLS’ site BEFORE buying).Since I was replacing a plain Honeywell model that was a modern era, Honeywell, it had the “standard” Honeywell bracket that the HVAC control wires were already set into. I snapped the old one out, and after confirming the wires were in the right places (red, yellow, white, etc) I just snapped the new one in. It came on in programming mode and I followed the manual’s programming mode instructions. The instructions are pretty good so an amateur can do it. (I am not a rookie, and a rookie might need to go slower and maybe read the instructions in advance and learn some jargon). I am not a Pro so I made one mistake, and then followed instructions on page 14 to re-enter program mode and do it over. I got it right. Basically 10-15 minutes. Easy peasy as thermostat wiring goes.General advice though: Rookies beware, there are a LOT of different types of heating units and AC units in the world and you need to know something about what equipment you have as you can damage it with a wrongly wired thermostat, or if you pick a thermostat that won’t recognize all equipment features you won’t get the benefit of them. If you don’t want to do your homework before you buy a new thermostat, call a pro, and hopefully they will get it done the right first time.

    Great product that performs perfectly
Good solution for a programmable thermostat. While it is not wifi and phone capable it does the job well with easy versatile options. Control has a clean interface with backlighting. Temperature accuracy is spot on. Buttons have a good tactile feel and nice and simple. Easy to clean material and has held up well.

    Works Great
Great thermostat took off the old one not knowing there was a huge hole in the wall.So I was thinking how am I going to install this thermostat to the wall.So being a handy person I can up with an idea I got a solid face switch plate drilled a hole in it the center of it just big enough to get the therostat wire thru ,Then I mounted the back of the thermostat terminal plate to the solid switch plate and mounted everything to the wall.BINGO problem solved. The thermostat works great I highly recommend it.

Worked great out of the box. Install was simple since we already had all the wiring labeled.I’ve installed a Nest thermostat before and the packaging came with handy little labels to put on the wiring as you disconnect the older thermostat. Would have been nice if Honeywell (a huge name in the thermostat business) would have done the same. All in all, good enough product to get the job done.

Bought this controller to replace an older model that died.Very simple instructions included on how to remove the old unit and replace it with this new one. The instructions show you where each wire goes.In the end my controller only had 2 wires to connect, but even if yours had more, it would be no more difficult.I put the batteries in, clipped it onto the wall plate and my central heating fired up straight away.Couldn’t have been easier.

I have a very old two-wire connection (I checked the furnace, and I cannot even install a more advanced system), and this worked perfectly. No adapters needed, quick immediate connection, installation took perhaps five minutes. Works beautifully.
