Hard to Set Up Smart Thermostat
Having a smart thermostat was something that I wanted to have to use with my Alexa app. I wanted to upgrade my old thermostat. My husband and I built our own house and are well versed in electrical and other house building efforts. My husband read the instructions for the wiring. The back plate is thin and warps when installing into the wall. This is bad when the wall may vibrate and the connectors pull away from the wall plate because it isn’t flat. Secondly, the back of the thermostat’s prongs are not long and barely holds to the back plate. My husband had to bang it into the wall in hopes that the prongs will connect properly. Once that was done my husband told me to set it up. The instructions do not match the thermostat’s picture and I had to guess how to get the wifi to start up before getting it to connect to my phone. The manual or automatic way as in the instructions didn’t coincide. After numerous attempts, I had to press and hold down the down arrow to get the wifi status to flash. Getting connection was trial and error. Now that the wifi was connected I had to answer questions about our heating unit. Luckily because my husband install the hvac himself, he knew the answers. I hate to say most people have homes and may not recall whether the thermostat or the heating fan control is done by the furnace or not. So even if you get a pro to install, he better know about your hvac and know about the software app. This is not a simple DIY as stated. Time will tell whether this is a reliable product. The price is average to many other smart thermostats. Know your hvac before purchasing so you don’t have problems or aren’t confused during the installation process.
