Great thermostat in the end but install harder than it should’ve been.
I got this to replace my old no name brand thermostat. I had always held off getting a smart thermostat before as I’ve always had the best luck with Honeywell thermostats and their previous smart thermostats didn’t interest me. Upon opening the box I was greeted by a thermostat that looked every bit as well made as a Honeywell thermostat is known for.I was excited to get it installed. The installation though ended up being harder than it should have been as Honeywell chooses not to include paper instructions and instead forces you to scan a QR code and than read the instructions on a small phone screen. To say I hate when companies do this is an understatement! It’s far easier and more convenient to have the instructions out in front of you on paper than it is to scroll back and forth on a phone while trying to keep it awake long enough to read them. I took off a star on my review for this reason alone. Come on Honeywell, it’s a $200+ thermostat. Print out some decent instructions.After initial wiring and setup though, things got better. The thermostat has a nice bright screen and looks great in my living room. The screen is easy to read and can be configured different ways with various backgrounds. Most importantly though, this thermostat is very accurate. I don’t get the cold/hot delays I did with my old thermostat. That one let the room temp drop 2 full degrees before flipping the heat back on. Not this Honeywell. It locks it right at 68 degrees and keeps it dead on. I love that and it’s something that Honeywell does better than anyone else.The app was easy to setup as well. The thermostat easily paired up with my router and never loses connection. It’s a very nice thing to be in bed and be able to turn the heat down after you forgot to without having to go to the thermostat. The app also let’s you track energy usage, air quality, change vacation settings, and more.Speaking of air quality, I can tell you that this feature is more than a gimmick like I thought it would be. It really works. I know this as it showed our air quality is great all week until Sunday. All of a sudden the VOC’s went up. The reason was we had painted our front door that day which is located about 10′ from the thermostat and this thermostat picked up the VOC’s from the paint. VOC’s went from very low to fair. Very nice and accurate for a device whose primary function is temperature control.Overall I really like this Honeywell smart thermostat. Other than no paper instructions, I think Honeywell hit this one out of the park for quality and accuracy.
