Overview
The Arducam True Day & Night Vision USB2 UVC Camera is designed for reliable imaging around the clock. Featuring a STARVIS 2 sensor and auto-switching feature, it delivers vibrant color in daylight and crisp infrared images in darkness. With 8 built-in IR LEDs, excellent low-light sensitivity, and a 95° wide-angle fixed lens, it captures clear, expansive views in any lighting condition. Its durable metal housing and USB 2.0 UVC compliance ensure easy plug-and-play integration on Windows and Linux, while AI-friendly low-resolution YUV output makes it ideal for computer vision and edge AI applications.

Daytime Mode
In natural daylight or well-lit environments, the camera captures vivid full-color images, clearly displaying surrounding details.

Nighttime Modes
When light levels drop or there is no visible light, the IR-cut filter automatically switches to night mode, and the IR LEDs turn on to deliver clear black-and-white infrared night vision.

Rugged case, meh picture, not the best stand
I have several other Arducams and this one has by far the most rugged case. Most of them are cameras on a circuit board with no case. I have 3D printed cases for the other cameras, but they cannot compare to the nice metal case on this camera. The case has a built-in stand, but the stand is hard to position because the swivel is locked by two screws on each side. It’s really tough to get the perfect friction so the camera stays in place but can still be moved when needed. The bottom of the stand is also missing the normal 1/4-20 thread hole to allow you to attach it to a tripod or other stand. The camera has a simple USB connection for power and data and supports UVC so it’s pretty universal. The lens is an M12 fixed focus type. Anything closer than about 3 feet is blurry. Farther away, images are a little grainy. In the night vision mode, things are very grainy. It has a rolling shutter instead of a global shutter, so it’s not great for computer vision processing.

Works, built like a tank
This is one of those rare gadgets that does exactly what it says on the tin, without pretending it’s something it’s not. I tested this Arducam 2MP Day & Night Vision USB Camera Module on both a Mac mini and a desktop PC. Plugged it in, fired it up, and it worked on both with zero drama. No drivers, no rituals, no pleading with the computer gods.Night performance is decent, not cinematic. I was able to get a usable image at roughly 20 feet in full darkness using the built-in IR LEDs. The picture isn’t razor sharp, but it’s absolutely workable for security or monitoring. You can clearly tell what’s happening, which is the entire point. If you’re expecting Hollywood-level clarity from a 2MP USB camera, that’s on you.The hardware itself is the real standout. All aluminum body, heavy for its size, and feels like it could survive being knocked off a shelf repeatedly without complaint. It has proper mounting holes on the bottom, which immediately makes it more useful than half the plastic junk sold as “security cameras.” This thing wants to be screwed into place and left alone.Software-wise, it plays nicely with VLC and other capture tools. I’ve been running it as an always-on camera pointed at a door, and it does that job well. A big upside is that the image quality is intentionally modest. You’re not generating absurd amounts of footage that eat hundreds of gigabytes per day, but you still get reliable visual coverage.Bottom line: this is a solid, utilitarian camera module for people who want something simple, durable, and predictable. No cloud nonsense, no spyware vibes, no fragile plastic shell. Just a metal brick with a lens that quietly does its job, which frankly is refreshing.
